Royalty
nominations: Please go to the Horizon
home page to nominate your peers for homecoming royalty.
Please come support the cheerleaders and purchase a $10 shirt to
wear to the USA themed football game on Friday night. Part of the proceeds will go to support the
troops.
The Hawks General Store will be open during 3rd hour on Tuesday
and Thursday. If you need gum, earbuds, or school supplies, come see
us in the hawk store. We are located in the lobby. Free hug with a
purchase. See you there!!
Horizon
High School’s Theatre Department is proud to present their first production of
the year, Almost, Maine. Performances will take place October 4, 5 and
6 at 7pm in the auditorium. Tickets can be bought online at http://hhsdrama.seatyourself.biz.

counseling office if you don’t have an ID
Students, in
order for you to attend Homecoming, you must have a 95% attendance rate.
Attendance will be posted weekly, outside of the dean's office, so please check
the list prior to purchasing your ticket. The tickets are $15 and the
dance will be in the gym from 7-11 p.m.
Hey all, let's support
Colorado and our wonderful state farmers. Come into the cafeteria on 9/13/17 to indulge in the sweet, juicy, deliciousness of
Palisade Peaches. Make them a part of your nutritious meal on the 13th and
every day when available. Show your Colorado spirit...support our local
growers.
The Hawk's Nest will be opening on Thursday, September
14th. You may purchase snack items there during 2nd hour, part of 3rd and
7th hour, and all of 8th hour. Once the Hawk's Nest opens, you will need
to get a hot lunch by 12:45 p.m. each day. Nutrition Services
will serve a hot lunch until 1:30 p.m. each day,
through September 13th.
Students, Adams 12 no longer allows backpacks or bags to be
brought into games at the stadiums. Please leave them in your car or at
home.
Attention Seniors: Horizon High School will
host a Financial Aid Information Session on 9/13/17 from 5:00PM
to 6:00PM in the Library. Front Range Community College will present
information to students and parents regarding types of financial aid, documents
needed to apply and how to fill out the FAFSA. If you are unable to
attend on 9/13/17, a second information session is scheduled on 9/20/17
from 5:00PM to 6:00PM in the Library. Seniors/parents need to
attend one session only.
Enjoying your sustained silent reading book? Be sure to check
your due date and renew at the library this week!
The Student Center will be closed 1st - 3rd
hour next week on Wednesday 9/20 for the Fall
Student Awards. If you want a hot breakfast, please use the entrance door
closest to the courtyard and plan to eat your breakfast in the courtyard.
The Student Center will reopen at the end of 3rd hour.
ATTENTION SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS - TAKE THE PSAT/NMSQT
On Wednesday, October 11th, Horizon High School will offer
the PSAT/NMSQT exam to students. You can sign up to take the test in the
Counseling Office.
TO SIGN UP, YOU MUST BRING EITHER CASH OR CHECK IN THE AMOUNT OF
$25 TO THE COUNSELING OFFICE. YOU WILL NOT BE SIGNED UP WITHOUT PAYMENT. (We have limited spaces for the exam,
spots will only be available for the first 120 students who sign up.)
The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, October 6th. The test cost is
$25.
The test will be given Horizon High School.
The PSAT/NMSQT is the only way juniors can
qualify to enter the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Benefits of taking the PSAT/NMSQT include the following:
· customized skill based practice to increase
readiness through Kahn Academy carefully crafted to improve and polish
necessary academic skills;
· a personalized list of careers and potential
college majors and the ability to learn about them;
· access to the College Board's interactive
college and career planning website;
· an online score report, including projected SAT® score
ranges, state percentiles, and the ability to sort answer explanations by
difficulty and question type;
§ the opportunity to see which Advanced Placement
classes the student has potential to do well; and
§ a dedicated SAT® study
plan created by the test’s authors, including a review of results, practice
questions, essays scored, and the chance to take four complete SAT®’s.

The Boettcher Scholarship
application is now open! Daniels Fund Scholarship opens soon!
These two scholarship
opportunities are highly selective, full-ride scholarships with lengthy
applications that are due in in October/November.
Boettcher Foundation
Scholarship: The Boettcher Foundation
scholarship deadline is October 25th. Students can get on
the Boettcher website to take a "Senior Competitiveness
Quiz" to see if they may be good candidates for the application process.

Daniels Fund: The Daniels Fund Scholarship
opens September 29th and the deadline is November 30th. This scholarship pays for 100% of your college
expenses; however, families must first show economic need before the
application process can begin and all applicants must complete the 2018/19
FAFSA prior to applying. For more information, go to
the Daniels Fund website at www.DanielsFund.org. Please inform Mrs. Neumann if you are
applying for the Daniels Fund scholarship.

The Hawks' Chess & Gaming Club will
meet Friday at 3 o'clock in the library. All players
and levels are welcome to join the fun!
