Announcements: Wednesday, 04-09-2014

Reminder to all students taking College Accounting and College Marketing next year; You must take the Accuplacer testing required by Front Range Community College tomorrow (Wednesday) at 12:45 in Room E0504.  If you miss this testing, you will have to go to Front Range to complete the testing on your own.

The students from the Ruperti-Gymnasium and HHS students will be selling grilled bratwurst this Wednesday, periods 7,8 and after school in the courtyard for $2.50.  So come down, support our students, and have an "authentic" German bratwurst.

PROM TICKETS ARE ON SALE! Juniors and Seniors: Come Fly With Me! Prom tickets will be on sale today, April 7 - Thursday, April 10 in the Student Center periods 5, 6, & 7 and also after school Wednesday, April 9th, and Thursday, April 10. Tickets are $40 each and you must present ID to purchase your tickets. You may only purchase 2 tickets. You may only purchase tickets if you are on the 95% Attendance List. Students purchasing a ticket for a non-Horizon student must obtain a Guest Pass from the Dean's Office before buying tickets.  Prom tickets MAY NOT be purchased at the door.  You must purchase your ticket before prom.  

Juniors and Seniors, if you are planning to take someone to Prom who does not attend Horizon, please pick up a permission form in the Dean’s Office.  All forms are due today.

After Prom is for all grades 9-12 at Boondocks Fun Center. Tickets can be purchased in the Student Center during lunches. The price is $20 now or $25 at the door.

Juniors and Seniors vote this week for your prom royalty.  Use the link on the Horizon Homepage to cast your vote!

Sprit Week activities:  Fly Like a Hawk (Horizon Gear).  We are also giving prizes for the most spirited. Post your pictures to instagram with the hashtag #horizonspirit. There will be daily prizes and a Spirit King and Queen crowned at the assembly on Thursday

Help Out Kids in Need!  McElwain Elementary students are in need of your help, Horizon! Most of these elementary kids, who are a part of our district, live in poverty. Most cannot afford their basic needs, especially their school uniforms. What are the kids in need of? Navy/White T-shirts or polo shirts, Navy/Khaki Uniform Pants, (SIZES 5-12), and gently-used or new children’s books.  There will be a bin located in the main office for all donations until Thursday, April 10, 2014. Thank you for supporting the children of Mc Elwain Elementary School.

Senior Updates
If you are a Hispanic student wanting to continue on to college and you have given a lot to your community -- you should be applying for the Hispanic Advisory Council scholarship!  The deadline is today, so don't delay!  See NAVIANCE or Ms. Blue in Counseling for more information!

If You Are Planning A Career In Aviation As A Pilot Or Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic – See Ms. Blue For The 1,000 Lee Larson Memorial Aviation Scholarship.

All fees and fines must be paid by May 1. You will NOT be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony or receive your diploma if you have a balance due to the District.  Please check your Infinite Campus account and pay the balance due via the Pay-For-It system.   You also have the option to pay fees at the Bookkeeping office.  The Senior fine list is posted outside the Bookkeeping Office and is updated regularly.

In addition, Yearbook distribution is fast approaching.  Your fees/fines must be paid by April 30th in order to receive your yearbook.

Counseling News
SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, AND SENIORS:  TWO UNIQUE JOB POSSIBILITIES AWAIT YOU!  Would you like a job that you will love! Well . . . here are two possibilities! 
JOB #1 is called SEED PATHS.  This is a 2-month "Software Development Bootcamp" during the summer that teaches entry-level software and project management skills to students. Once you complete the program, you will earn $1,000 and have the potential for another job that pays $14 per hour!

JOB #2 is called YOUTH ROOTS. This is a job for next school year, but the application deadline is NOW.  YOUTH ROOTS is for students who want to impact your community!  The students selected will earn $3,000 for meeting twice per month from Sept - April with the Youth Board to brainstorm and initiate program for youth in our community.  SEE THE COUNSELING OFFICE BULLETIN BOARD FOR DETAILS!

ATTENTION STUDENTS AGE 13-17:  Would you like something to do this summer.  If so, you should volunteer as a "Teen Exploration Leader" for the Denver Botanic Gardens Summer Kids Program.  Students can sign up to be a Play Facilitator, Pipsqueak Pond Facilitator, or a Teen Ambassador.  You must sign up online and attend an April 13 orientation.  See Counseling Office for more information.

Are you credit deficient?  Summer school early registration paperwork is in.  If you need to make up credits in summer school, please see your counselor as soon as possible.

Community Service Club will be meeting on Monday, April 14 to sign up for activities at the Children's Museum and Lifeline Puppy Rescue. Everyone is welcome to attend!
