Counseling News

Seniors:  College Application Deadlines are upon us!  CU's deadline has passed; CSU's deadline is February 1st!   Hurry, hurry, hurry!  Check deadlines for your own colleges so you won't miss them!

Are you looking for a summer job?  The Governor's Summer Job Hunt is right around the corner.  This year you can pick from two different options. On February 26th from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. you can attend the Youth Job Fair at the Adams County Regional Park. This option is for youth ages 16-21 years of age. On February 27th and 28th you can attend the Virtual Job Fair.  This option is for youth 14-21 years of age.  All youth must pre-register on www.connectingcolorado.com.  Please call 720-523-6964 for registration assistance.

Seniors:  Are you checking your NAVIANCE account for scholarships?  Don't forget that NAVIANCE is the place where we list all new scholarships that come to our attention!  February, March, and April are HUGE scholarship deadline months.  GET BUSY LOOKING FOR THAT FREE MONEY!

Also Seniors:  If you are attending a private vocational/technical school after graduation, see Ms. Blue in the counseling office for information on the February 1st deadline for the "Colorado Association of Career Colleges" scholarship opportunity.  Some examples might be:  PIMA, Lincoln Tech, DeVry, Westwood, ITT Technical Institute, Denver School of Massage, etc.

Attention Students:  If your family needs help paying for college -- and who doesn't? -- then be sure to bring your parents to upcoming presentations about "How to Apply for Financial Aid."
Financial Aid is for 2-year colleges, 4-year colleges, or vocational-technical schools AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GPA OR ACT SCORES -- it is strictly money because your family needs help! BUT YOU MUST APPLY FOR IT BY THE END OF FEBRUARY!  The next presentation is todayfor seniors only in Horizon's computer lab, where an expert will actually be at Horizon, helping families submit their applications online. Don't miss this great opportunities to learn how anyone can afford college!

One more Seniors - Do you know where you are going to college? When you have received your acceptance letter and make your final decision, come to the counseling office and let us know so that we can get your college choice along with your senior picture up on the college bulletin board in the lobby!  Please report any and all scholarship offers to Ms. Jones in the Main Office.
